Kieran is going places....

I have had privelage of working with the Norris family for 10 years now, training Mum and Dad, Alice and John and remember Kieran when he was just five years of age.  Now 15 (taller than me...I know, not difficult) Kieran is an up and coming ski champion and slowly working through the ranks towards his ultimate goal of representing Great Britain in the Olympics.  See him in action here!

KB3 and Cofunds

As a John Reillys final leaving present from Cofunds, John paid me give his work mates a good going over. The team handled it all pretty well feeling energised with only one team member getting a taste of what he had for breakfast. Oh well! Well done Guys. As payment John made a very generous donation to charity of my choice. Addenbrooks Baby Unit. Thanks again.

Well Done Ingatstone Beaver Scouts

Well done to Ingatestone Beaver Scouts who all passed their Fitness Badge on 2nd March with flying colours.

If I said I wasn't nervous I would be a lair!

Being confronted by 20 6-8 year old Scouts was daunting but great fun.  Firstly we talked about Fitness and why it is important.  Answers ranged from:

  1. "You wont get fat"
  2. "You wont die"...good answer, very blunt and to the point!
  3. "To have a healthy heart"
  4. "Increase the amount of red blood cells" (I was very impressed with that answer!)

We followed up by doing some running, jumping, push ups and measuring pulse rates and then finished off with having some fun on the Battling Ropes.  Shirley Darling, aka Pooh Bear, told me they all looked exhausted and where a little quieter that evening.

Thanks again Ingatestone Beaver Scouts.

Gloves for Kettlebell Training? Calluses and Gorilla Grips

Blisters, calluses and kettlebell training is always a contentious issue.  The purist kettlebell enthusiast will say that you should not use gloves or hand protection of any kind. It is a matter of technique, which is true.  However, in my experience for the recreational kettlebell user (most users) it can be real cause for concern leaving hands sore and in some cases injured unable to train with open wounds.  Open wounds can lead to infection!

Finding the right hand protection is difficult with kettlebells as having the connection with the bell and being able to feel how it is moving is important.  Gorilla-Grips are a small real leather grip that line the part of the hand prone to calluses, blisters and injury.  Click here to see more about Gorilla-Grips.
